Summer Events In The UK

Reading Fest is the most popular music festival in the world. It is held on the August Bank Holiday weekend at Little John’s Farm in Central Reading and is organised by Festival Republic. Reading Festival 2009 is just around the corner and Reading Festival Tickets are going to go on sale on March 30, 2009.

This festival originated from the National Jazz Festival which was held to reproduce the various festivals held in the United States. This was first held in 1961, but its current name and location came about in 1971 when it moved to Reading and was known as the Reading Festival. It then started having alternative rock and blues artists perform, but over time moved to punk rock and hard rock, which is what it is known for today.

In the 1980s, the local council set a ban on the festival indirectly by taking its site for development purposes and refusing to allow a license to arrange it elsewhere. This was overturned in 1986 when the new council took office. In the ‘80s, there was also an attempt to make this more of a pop music festival, but that was very unsuccessful. Many acts where ‘bottled off’ the stage by fans who threw bottles at the acts, including Meat Loaf, but in the ‘90s it went to its current format with more rock bands.
