My connectivity experience

For several years the thoight to connect my laptop and LCD TV has never left my mind. You may ask a reasonable question: “why do you need it?”. Actually, I want to watch HD movies on my 42″ LCD and enjoy the crystal clear music or soundtracks. Moreover, if I find an hdmi to vga adapter I will just need only one wire to establish a high quality and reliable connection.

All these are just dreams thouugh they may seem to be absolutely real and easy to manage but for one tiny thing that nullifies all the efforts: the software limitation. I will explain everything in details. First of all, if you want to establish HDMI-HDMI connection you do not need any fiber optic extenders – as the latter is used in professional amplifiers and media centers. Everything could be great but the producers of my Notebook have limited HDMI out 1.2 version to video transmission only! You can’t transmit sound as the video card in the laptop is not connected to an audio card and you can’t make it work in any way. The only way out here is to forget about HDMI sound transmit and to connect via S/PDIF. Also there will be an advice: if you happen to lack HDMI connector, the best alternative will be component to vga connector.

It’s a pity that some producers deliberately reduce the functions of one or another device though actually these devices are capable to fulfill these functions.
